OUR MISSION is to provide experiential learning opportunities with horses while helping humans achieve positive growth.

The Sage Horse is based in Leiper’s Fork, Tennessee and working towards a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit status along with finding a permanent facility. We will be offering a comprehensive program of activities to include workshops, classes, personal counseling and learning opportunities with horses for individuals, families, companies and non-profit organizations.


REBECCA BAUER, MS, ESMHL-Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning from PATH, Int’l (Formerly NARHA).  Rebecca holds a master’s of science in marketing from Johns Hopkins University and is a marketing communications specialist and freelance writer.  While her professional work has focused in communications for the arts and entertainment and non-profit industries, she has also spent over 30 years with horses. The Maryland native has been involved in many areas including training and competing in the Hunter/Jumper ring and barn management to trail riding and owning a farm in the beautiful hills of Franklin, TN.  In 2007, she attended the Chris Irwin Equine Assisted Personal Development certification training and has since been drawn to the field of equine assisted learning and psychotherapy through research and attending and coordinating workshops. Continuing education also includes training with PATH, Int’l, EAGALA and Horse Sense of the Carolinas. Her writing and research includes the fields of experiential learning, neuroscience and cognitive psychology. Rebecca worked with adults with developmental disabilities and with a psychiatric rehabilitation center to complete her ESMHL certification in 2011 and continues to be a regular volunteer with Saddle Up! LISA WYSOCKY, Speaker, Author, Horse Trainer, LisaWysocky.com. Lisa Wysocky is a nationally recognized speaker, author and horse trainer. She  has a degree from the University of Minnesota in Equine Science and has been chosen by ARIA as one of the Top 50 riding instructors in the nation. An award-winning author and former trainer of world champion horses, Lisa is a PATH, Intl. instructor who trains horses for therapeutic riding and other equine assisted activities.


DEDE BEASLEY, M.Ed, LPC, Experiential Equine Counseling. Dede Beasley. Dede’s work is a blend of her knowledge of horses, principles of equine assisted psychotherapy and her in-depth training with experiential therapy methods.  She has developed equine therapy programs for addiction and dual-diagnosis treatment centers and was featured in a BBC documentary.  Click here to read more about Dede Beasley.



SUSAN LUTZ, PATH Intl. Advanced Instructor, PATH Intl. Region 5 Representative, Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning. Susan Lutz has facilitated and developed programs in Therapeutic Riding, Equine Assisted Learning and Psychotherapy for the past 16 years that include working with children and adults with mental and physical disabilities and Veterans

MIGHTY STAR POCO AND ALL THE HORSES– Poco is the lead horse and inspiration behind the Sage Horse. A 22-year-old American Paint mare who exemplifies a strong, intelligent animal with the ability to bring out the strength in others.  A competitive and recreational riding horse for many years, she now has shifted her gifts to equine assisted learning and psychotherapy.
